Waves Nature Bono Kampar River Riau

If you think surfing can only be done on the beach with big waves, then you are completely wrong. The proof is in the river Kampar (Batang Kampar-Named by communities around) District.Kampar in province of Riau . You can do surfing with waves in that river, the waves called "Bono Wave".

What is a wave Bono? Bono wave is a phenomenon that occurs as a result of the meeting rivers flow (Kampar river) and tidal water (South China Sea) which then collided to form a giant wave, scientifically natural phenomena (waves on the river) as it is called "Tidal Bore ". The largest and longest waves "Tidal Bore" in the world is in the Kampar river.

For Intensity and Volume of wave, wave Bono dubbed as "Wave Seven Ghosts" can reach a height of 6 meters (at certain time) and the length follows over the river width (about 70 meters), this wave moves from upstream (the estuary of rivers - surrounding Pulau Muda) to downstream (Cape Binjai) with a distance of about 60 km and a velocity of about 40 km / hour.

Occurrence Time of Wave Bono

Wave Bono usually occurs on the 10-20th of each month in the Hijri year (it also called the Malay month or Arabic year). The greatness of this wave occurs at about 13-16th on that months or at the time of the full moon. At another time, it usually occurs during the moon die(the end and the beginning of the Muslim lunar month or around Hijriyiah 27-2).

The best time to see wave Bono in Kampar is at the sea on the large tide (tide rivet) and during the rainy season, this usually occurs around September-January. but FYI ,for now this is observed it happens almost every day ,although the intensity is not as big as the times that have been described above.

The location of the occurrence of wave Bono

Bono waves occur in Kampar river, exactly at village of Teluk Meranti ,district Kampar, the geographical region located at 1°00'40" north longitude - 0°27'00" south longitude and 100°28'30"- 101°14'30" east longitude and included in the administrative area of the province of Riau, Indonesia. To get acces an access to be here you have to go through a fairly long journey. For you who are not living in this area, you can book a flight to Pekanbaru, from Pekanbaru you can go to the Pangkalan Kerinci (Kab. Pelalawan) by using a road trip.

Trip spends about 1.5 hours, or about 70 Km using a travel or other transportation. Next trip from the Pangkalan Kerinci to intersection Bunut (30 Minutes), then you are immediately taken to the village Teluk Meranti (River kampar-the site of wave bono phenomenon). This trip costs range around IDR100,000-200,000 or USD 10-20 for a trip(from pekanbaru).

For lodging, there are no fancy hostelry or hotel in this area, but do not worry, "Home stay" can be a simple alternative for resting after enjoy the phenomenon. Furthermore, nice and good attitude of the local community can also help you release tired to stay resting and sleeping in their home.
